Philippians 4:12-13 "I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want. I can do all this through him who gives me strength." (NRSV)
There have been many times in my life where I have been in each situation mentioned above and one specific time comes to mind.
After our son was born our financial situation was not the best. This one particular day I didn't know how we could pay our bills and buy milk or food for our son, who was just a toddler. So much so, that I was crying and praying to God for a way to make it possible. I mean we needed food and milk for our son and we just didn't have the money to get these things! I was afraid! But the LORD heard the cries of my heart and just when I didn't see any way, the mail was delivered, that day! In that mail we received two checks which was more than enough to buy what we needed!
As I reflect upon this one incident and many others that have happened over the years I am reminded that no matter the situation, the trials or tribulations that come, we are able to continue and to do all things through Christ who strengthens us! At our weakest moments - times of doubt, fear, loss and heart break, Christ comes to us in answer to our prayers!
After my marriage fell apart, I still got up on Sunday mornings, preached the good news of Jesus Christ and then came home and fell apart. It was not easy at all! Many Sunday mornings I wanted to stay home with the covers over my head, blinds pulled and just retreat from the world. It was only through the strength and power of Jesus Christ that I was able to get up, get ready, go and preach a message of healing, hope, mercy and forgiveness. I give Him all the glory for everything in my life!
In the Scripture reading posted above, Paul is thanking those who had showed concern for him and had given him fragrant gifts. He really appreciated it! He also wanted them to know that he was taken care of by God and that through all things Jesus Christ gave him strength and provided all he needed.
Paul gave them these final words in verse 19 of Philippians 4, "And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus." (NRSV)
Such wonderful words to leave them, to leave us, with. My friend you may be in a difficult time in your life. Maybe you are struggling emotionally, financially, or physically. Please know that whatever it might be that you are going through Jesus Christ will give you the strength to get through it and persevere! You are not alone and Jesus walks beside, above, below, in front and behind you at all times. He even carries you when you can't seem to put one more step forward! He is the great healer, the lover of our souls and He desires for you to turn to him with all situations and circumstances in your life! He desires to carry your burdens when they become too heavy for you bear! He desires to show you God's glory when you choose to live for Him and praise Him no matter where you find yourself to be!
Have faith and believe knowing that without a doubt "You can do all things through Christ who strengthens you"!
